Residual Accounts Request Process
Scope: The purpose of this workflow is to define the process for processing and approving residual account set-up. Note: No residual account is to be established with “projected” awards. A fund must be active and fully operational before an account can be considered.
SRP
- Upon receipt of a new grant or when FY TNS sheet process has been completed, analyze budget and determine if a residual account is required based on TNS report.
- Complete all of section A, and “Dept,” and “Fund Number” columns in section B of the residual account request form.
- Are the accounts SRP and U-Center Grants?
- If yes, sign and route to U-Center for review and approval. U-Center will complete section B of the residual account request form, sign and return to SRP.
- If no or when returned from U-Center, route to principal investigator (PI) for review and approval.
Principal Investigator (PI)
- Approve residual participation (reference SOM policy 950-01-004 for eligibility criteria).
- Review and approve residual account request form (return within 3-5 working days).
- Return form to SRP or U-Center.
Business Operations
- Review forms and payroll backups.
- Is BEA ok to process?
- .If yes, process BEAs (transfers to be processed before the end of the month)
- Return executed form to SRP/center and FAO.
- If no, return to SRP for correction.

SRP/U-Center FAO
- Route to FAO for review, approval and to obtain chair approval.
FAO/Department Chair
- Review form and provide feedback.
- Approve, amend, or reject.
- Return form to SRP or U-Center within 3-5 working days.
